NEW YORK – April 14, 2016 – Apex for Youth, Inc. today announced the establishment of the Norman C.T. Liu Apex Scholarship Fund at its annual Inspiration Awards Gala. Founded in 1992, Apex for Youth is a not-for-profit organization based in New York City that offers educational and mentorship programs to underserved Asian and immigrant youth in grades 1 through 12. Ten scholarships will be awarded annually for the next five years to help selected high school students attend a college or university.
Norman C.T. Liu is currently Chairman of GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS), the commercial aircraft leasing and financing arm of General Electric. With nearly $50 billion in assets and a portfolio of over 2,100 fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft, GECAS is the world’s leading commercial aviation financing company. Liu is a 30-year GE veteran with over 20 years with GECAS. He served as GECAS President and CEO the last seven years. He graduated from Yale in 1979 and from Harvard Business School in 1982.
“Apex for Youth has for many years done outstanding work in New York City and I’m pleased to support their ongoing mission by establishing this scholarship fund to help Asian and immigrant students pursue higher education,” said Liu.
