Operations Assistant
Part-Time (25 hours per week, Mon-Fri)
Apex for Youth is hiring a part-time Operations Assistant in its New York office. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Operations Assistant is responsible for all general and administrative support activities, with a passion to advance Apex’s mission in delivering possibilities to underserved Asian and immigrant youth from low-income families in NYC.
The Operations Assistant will:
- Assist with government grant applications and forms
- Provide administrative support for development department
- Provide administrative support for Executive Director including maintaining daily calendar and assisting with the scheduling of board meetings and executive committee meetings
- Manage office operations including office supplies, common and reception area
- Provide support as needed for signature events including vendor and donor registration, volunteer management, production assistance, and various planning tasks
- Maintain organizational email address, respond to general inquiries and distribute specific inquiries to appropriate staff members
- Oversee opening and distribution of incoming mail and external mailing, shipping and messenger service
- Answer and direct incoming calls as needed
- Assist with general bookkeeping activities as needed
- Assist with other duties as needed
Qualifications
- Experience working on city government contracts, particularly the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) preferred
- High levels of attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent administrative and organizational skills and experience supporting a senior executive
- Solid computer skills (ie. MS Word and Excel)
- Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented environment
- Bookkeeping, graphic design (ie. Photoshop or Illustrator), Mandarin (reading and writing) skills desired but not required

Afterschool Assistant Program Site Director
Part-Time (25 hours per week, Mon-Fri)
Apex for Youth is looking for a part-time assistant afterschool program site director who is in charge of supervision/operation of Middle school SONYC program on a daily basis at a public middle school located in Chinatown, Manhattan.
Apex for Youth is a non-profit organization that delivers possibilities to underserved Asian and immigrant youth from low-income families in NYC through mentoring, educational, athletics and after school programs that serve students from 1st to 12th grade.
Roles and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Scheduling activities
- Early Dismissal
- Supervising transition time between regular school and afterschool
- Attendance check
- Monitoring participant’s progress and making case notes
- keeping daily attendance up-to-date in DYCD Online
- Outreach and Enrolling participants
- Reports to a director supervisor
- Coordinating events, (for example, Showcase Day, Community Service events, Field trips etc)
Requirements:
- Teaching experience with middle school students, particularly at-risk youth preferred
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in education or teaching certification a plus
- Some knowledge of working with English Language Learners is helpful
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Compensation is commensurate with experience.

Afterschool Program Computer Class Instructor
Part-Time (Min. 3 hours to max. 15 hours per week, Mon-Fri from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm)
Apex for Youth is looking for a part-time instructor to teach computer classes to middle school students with Apex Afterschool Program on a daily basis at a catholic school located in Upper West Side, New York City in the 2016-2017 school year.
Apex for Youth is a non-profit organization that delivers possibilities to underserved Asian and immigrant youth from low-income families in NYC through mentoring, educational, athletics and after school programs that serve students from 1st to 12th grade.
The curriculum includes but is not limited to the following:
- MS office – MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint
- Graphic design
- Web development
- Programming
Roles and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Curriculum/activity preparation and delivery
- Taking daily attendance
- Monitoring participant’s progress
- Attending professional development trainings as needed
- Supervising kids during snack and homework time
- Keeping PCs and school property safe
- Submitting a bi-weekly timesheet to program director supervisor
Requirements:
- Teaching experience with middle school students, particularly at-risk youth preferred
- Proficient/advanced technical knowledge in the relevant subject area
- HS diploma; Bachelor’s degree in education or teaching certification a plus
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Compensation is commensurate with experience.

Afterschool Program Youth Group Leader
Part-Time (Min. 3 hours to max. 15 hours per week, Mon-Fri from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm)
Apex for Youth is looking for a part-time Youth Leader to teach middle school students with Apex Afterschool Program on a daily basis at a catholic school located in Upper West Side, New York City in the 2016-2017 school year.
Apex for Youth is a non-profit organization that delivers possibilities to underserved Asian and immigrant youth from low-income families in NYC through mentoring, educational, athletics and after school programs that serve students from 1st to 12th grade.
The activities include but are not limited to the following:
- English Language Arts (Test Prep, Reading, Spelling Bee, Debate/Toast Masters etc.)
- Beads and jewelry making
- Music (forming, teaching and leading a youth choir with an instrument)
- Dance (Pop dance, Latin dance, Zumba etc.)
Roles and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Curriculum/activity preparation and delivery
- Taking daily attendance
- Monitoring participant’s progress
- Attending professional development trainings as needed
- Supervising kids during snack and homework time
- Submitting a bi-weekly timesheet to program director supervisor
