On Friday August 12, 2016, Apex for Youth mentees attended a morning Career Day session at Pentagram, located in Manhattan’s Flatiron district. Pentagram is a company that designs and produces some of the world’s most well known brand logos (view their iconic projects here), and the company also created Apex for Youth’s new logo two years ago. Taiwan-born Partner Natasha Jen, who studied graphic design at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, shared what goes into being a design consultant in today’s visual and digital world to our high school mentees; it was particularly thought provoking to hear her speak about the process, research and thought that goes into graphic design. We saw some of Pentagram’s inspirational works, as well as the time and dedication her team puts into these meticulous designs. During the Q&A, our mentees had the opportunity of interviewing Natasha on her decision to major in graphic design, her career trajectory, as well as asking her about her typical day at the office. Afterwards, Natasha led an office tour and showed us around the building. It was an eye-opening experience for our mentees to see how and where these popular brand logos were designed. Thank you Natasha for giving Apex an insight on Pentagram and the graphic arts career as well!
