We started off another school year with Opening Day, a group event where we take our mentors and mentees out of the city for a day of outdoor bonding and fun. Many of our new mentors and mentees met for the first time! This year we took them to Bear Mountain, where mentors and mentees were able to try paddle boating and row boating. Middle school students and 9th graders then split from the rest of the high school students to play various ice breaker games. After filling their bellies with huge sandwiches (6 foot-long subs!) and salads, mentees and mentors broke into smaller groups for free time, appreciating the rescued animals in the zoo and the nature on the hiking trail. Thank you to everyone for making this year’s Opening Day a successful one. We look forward to the exciting events ahead!
