On the first Saturday of March, Apex mentors and mentees gathered together at P.S 1 in Chinatown for a pizza lunch before taking the bus to our snow tubing event, located at Mount Peter in Warwick, NY. When we arrived at the site, everybody felt the extreme coldness on top of the mountain compared to the city. Bundled up and ready to go, we were all excited to hop on the conveyor belt and ride to the top of the snow hill. It was the first time snow tubing for many of our mentees and mentors, so once we reached the top, sliding down the steep hill on red inflatable tubes suddenly felt intimidating. But once we conquered the fear of snow tubing down in extreme speeds and feeling the cold wind in our faces, many of us went right back to the conveyor belt when we reached the bottom of the hill. By the end of the day, our snow tubing amateurs were racing down the hill backwards, even spinning 360 degrees! Those with multiple runs under their belt also figured out how to sit on the tubes so they could speed down even faster. Everybody had a blast, especially when we ate snacks and sipped hot chocolate in the break container after spending a long afternoon snow tubing.
