Apex for Youth Annual Gala Celebrates 25th Anniversary With Special Honoree Connie Chung

New York, NY (March 17, 2017) — This Spring, Apex for Youth celebrates 25 years of providing NYC community-based programs to help develop college-ready, confident and community-minded Asian American youth. Through its mentoring and educational programs for students from 1st to 12th grade, Apex volunteers guide and inspire youth to become confident young adults who are ready for college and give back to the community. Today Apex serves over 1,300 children weekly with nearly 11,000 hours of volunteer service a year.

To bring to life this incredible moment, on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, Apex for Youth will celebrate its 25th anniversary and honor inspiring leaders from the past 25 years during its Apex for Youth 25th Anniversary Gala. The annual Apex for Youth Gala dinner benefit celebrates outstanding leaders who model the values Apex seeks to instill in their youth.
“It’s remarkable to see how many lives Apex for Youth has touched over 25 years simply because volunteers were willing to be role models for youth they did not know. The goal of Apex has always been to encourage the next generation to become successful and give back. Looking at the achievements of the celebrants of our gala, it is truly inspirational to see how far the Asian American community has come. Our youth are also able to see that their incredible accomplishments are possible,” said Michael Lee, Executive Director of Apex for Youth.

Each year, thousands of Asian American children, many of them immigrants with only basic English skills, are thrust wholly unprepared into some of the NYC public school system’s toughest schools.

“I am honored and thrilled to be part of such an important evening!  Apex for Youth is such a valuable, inspirational and worthy organization. I am proud to be an Apex supporter,” said Connie Chung.  “My parents and four older sisters came to the U.S from China in the 1940’s. There were no organizations anything like Apex. How lucky our young Asian immigrants are to be able to take advantage of the terrific opportunities Apex offers. We should all be grateful to the Apex founders for their brilliant idea and generosity.”
