Google’s Corporate Engineering Women’s group, Filipino Googler Network and Asian Googler Network hosted “Be the Bridge” for their 18th anniversary in October, in partnership with Apex for Youth and Peace Jam. “Be the Bridge” is a program to inspire youth and help equip them for the challenges and opportunities that may come in their future. More than 50 middle school girls from our PS 184 and Corpus Christi after school program visited New York City’s Google office and met professionals across a variety of industries, from tech to entertainment. The pilot program encouraged offline connections through interactive exercises, highlighting how mobile devices can be used as a self guided learning tool. Our students were able to broaden their horizons in future roles powered by technology and learned the importance of being makers beyond the event.

Apl.de.ap of the Black Eyed Peas, an Apex for Youth 2016 Inspiration Award Honoree, also made a special appearance, discussing his career with our youth and even performing a song. He also brought along a former Voice of the Philippines contestant who sang for our youth as well. Thank you to Google and Apl for a rewarding and fun-filled day for our middle school students!
