HIGH SCHOOL MENTORING AT MOCA

January was National Mentoring Month and this year, mentees and their mentors were guided through Chinese American history at the Museum of Chinese in America.  Mentees were also given a tour of the FOLD exhibit, which highlighted incredible paper sculptures made by undocumented Chinese migrants who were detained for years in NYC after a shipwreck (which set the precedent for some of our immigration laws today).

Mentees and their mentors then participated in a food trivia and tasting of historic Chinatown restaurant establishments, followed by a movie screening of “The Search for General Tso,” a fascinating look into the origins of the iconic American-Chinese dish.

Thanks so much to our friends at MentorNY for sponsoring this fun and educational experience for the Apex youth and volunteers, and to the knowledgeable staff at MoCA!
