The Apex for Youth Basketball Program began in January 2011 as a partnership between Apex for Youth, PS 1 and the Charles B. Wang Community Health Center. We are looking for committed men and women to volunteer their Saturday mornings (10 a.m. – 12 p.m. or 12 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.) to help us provide a structured team sports environment for youth and families who cannot afford to access this type of experience otherwise. Regular inter-school scrimmages take place each semester.
You do not have to be a great basketball player in order to be a great basketball coach. In fact, the two are sometimes inversely related. We are looking for men and women (with some basketball or team sports experience) who want to work with youth and can show up on a consistent basis for about 8 weeks each semester. What does coaching look like with Apex for Youth?
Here are 2 news stories featuring some students and coaches interviewed during the height of Linsanity.
Our basketball program is now in 5 different schools located in Lower Manhattan and Chinatown.
